Strida MK1 and MK2
«
on:
March 08, 2007, 11:17:12 PM »
While I rode Rida 3,I try to search, discover and learning more about Strida.
I found that Mark Sanders designed and get award since 1985.Get in production on 1987 and start to luanch in market on 1989.
The first model MK1 are made in UK and very expensive,MK 1 can not fold handle bar and paddles.
Aluminium No. 5051 with all black coating................
I try to find old MK1 and fell hopeless because if they have MK1 in Thailand they must in rich cyclist collector only.
I think they have but not a lot.
Thai people may be lucky by we have a used folding bike market from Japan(golden junk)
One day I saw MK1 post sale on Thai website.
As soon as possible my mobile phone working immediately hotline and shout "That is My !"
Here is the picture in classified,"All complete" is self talking by my open eyes.

We can see big reflector at front and rear fender and on wheels.
This is only on MK1.
I must notice to junk please not paint or wash any on MY MK1
I'm hurry to go and touch the dusty MK1.
Fast check whole set and found that ready to ride, just only a coating by dust and grease.
I'm rode MK1 back home 7 km 1 shot.
All speed like MK3 (different degree of handle steam a little)
This picture is my first picture of my MK1 at home.

MK1 and MK2 is the same design and different from MK3 at the degree of handle stem.
1&2 are flat stem with plastic cover the real stem tube inside.
In MK3 is more rise degree of stem.
A little handling different if you ever ride MK3 before.
But if the first at MK1 by never touch any Strida is so difficult to contol.
Not only handle,MK1's seat is a little sway and make you fell not firm.
I don't hate any problem that is good felling to build my imagine clearly how people fell at the first time to touch MK1 in 1989.
18 years untill now how Strida change.

MK1 always in black,MK2-2.5 is silver paint,MK3 is multi colour as you seen.
Handle bar of MK1 and MK2 can not fold.
Handle bar change design to fold on MK2.5 and better on MK3

MK1 is made in UK in 1989-1992
MK2 is made in UK in 1998-2000
MK2.5 is made in UK in 2000-2002
MK3 is made in TW since 2002 until now
......
Look at brand plate on crank set.
We can see old logo type and serial number.
I try to investigate age from serial number.

This MK2 is US version, brought by Thai student in USA on 2000.
This model made in UK while 1998-2000.(MK1 in 1989-1992 & MK2.5 in 2000-2002)
I guess my MK2 is produce in the end of MK2 siries before change to 2.5 after year 2000 .
I find logo "Millinnium Products" on seat support.
Better handling more than my MK1,may be by 11 years younger.

Compare by spec
Strida's front 100 rear 30 teeth = ratio 1:3.3
Black sister "Dahon Classic III" front 52 rear 16 = ratio 1:3.25
Same size of wheels that mean too close in top speed.
Black sister have 3 inter hub gear for upper and lower ratio in a little percent.
Stida's body is aluminum and lighter than black sister which hi-ten frame.
I'm trying to collect many folding bike for learning about thinking and design.
Black sister is made in late 80-early 90 and have many patent of good design.
Strida's design is different at all,it is real commutor and pure create.
Just only how to clip 2 wheels together like double donuts,I believe you never seen in other bike in the world.
.....
Strida is not made for hi-speed but good in smooth start, good sprint, clean by belt, very easy to fold and carry.
