Most websites selling Strida say both the 3.x and 5 model weight around 10kg.

AreaWare (new USA distributor) website says the Strida 5 only weighs 9kg.  That's really quite a difference.

Anybody have stock versions of 3.2 and 5 convenient to a scale?  I'd really like to know if there's really close to a kg difference between the two.

Can you tell the difference of 9 kg vs 10 kg just by lifting it? I have a strida 3 and I have lifted strida 5 and I do not feel any difference.
The difference in weight could be due to removal of some parts perhaps. Is it being weighed without the saddle?
Singapore's strida shop is closed from 8 Oct to 18 Oct as the owners travel to Taiwan to scout for more cycling and foldable goodies, so we cannot confirm this with you as we lack proper equipment.

Seriously, after modding (changing saddle) and add-ons (lights, bells, racks etc), it will weight more than 10 kg. Unless you are sending by airmail, then the diff will not be noticeable. Mine weigh about 13 kg after all the photography equipment strapped.

I don't c a difference in 1 kg.  Most of d time, it will either b cycle or push.  We hardly carry it & walk around.  Mayb go up pedestrian bridge.

Even it is send by airmail, most likely will b on volumetric rather than actual weight.

So, don't b alarm by 1kg or 2.2ibs Grin

Hi,

Both the Strida 3.3 and the 5.0 weigh the same. Maybe you can tell us what is your concern over the 1kg difference then some of the members can better explain to you further. We weighed the bike before with the wheels on the floor and tilting at 45 degrees angle, just about the same way as u will roll it and it weighed only 5.5kg.  Wink

Thanks for the reply.

Could you also hang them from a scale and let me know the real weights?  That's how most bike shops and reviewers report bicycle weights.

I know one kg doesn't seem like much of a difference in terms of riding or carrying the bike.  Reason I asked is simply that one vendor is publishing different info (10% lighter!) from everyone else.  That means:

(1) The US vendor has it wrong, or
(2) They know something nobody else does, or
(3) The model shipped to the US is somehow different from other parts of the world

While one kg doesn't seem like a lot, it's really a big chunk out of a package that's only around ten kg to begin with - and real or mistaken that DOES make a difference.

If real, I'd want to know the weight reductions didn't come at the expense of frame stiffness of component quality.  If mistaken, then I'd want to why someone marketing the bike is publishing wrong numbers.

Rimar... you would like to check with Areaware via email?? I think they will be the best ones to answer this... we are all just guessing what makes their Strida 5 lighter... it is pretty interesting to know how they manage to make the bike 10 percent lighter.... thinner frame tube walls? Lighter rims?

Yup, I emailed Areaware - I got the impression they don't really have any bike on hand at the moment because they said they could weigh them and let mew know in a couple of weeks.

I think it might make more sense to right to the source - email Ming, which I will do when I get home.

Diana at Strida.us tells me the weights of the mk3 and mk5 are basically the same, and they will be correcting their website shortly.

Thanks Rimar. I see. So it was just an error. Good that you have persue this and came out with an answer. If not, we will still be thinking.... folks in US are getting a Strida 5 that is about 10% lighter than the rest of the world.
