We set up our folding bikes at the Paya Lebar Airbase in pitch darkness at 5 am yesterday (25 May 2008) amidst a cool early morning breeze. A slight downpour came at 6.50 am - it was that exacting. The airbase personnel cycled around the carnival area and gathered everyone to cycle fast to a nearby hangar to seek shelter from the imminent lightning. It rained for 10 minutes and the skies then gave way to clear weather once more.
The thousands of cyclists were slowly let in after the skies cleared. The traffic bottlenecks began with the security clearance at the gates.
When the group photo was taken, many riders had not arrived yet. The race was starting and the early riders were raring to go!
This year, many Birdy riders came to lend support. Jiachen with his new ORI ride was our youngest rider in the group and was shyly introduced to the jie jies and gor gors in the group! Some had more than 3-4 folding bikes in the family and were even able to lend their folding bikes to their friends to join the group ride.
It was great to meet old friends and to get to know new ones at the roadshow. Many big thanks to Aryanto, Will5555, Hippo, Blur, Jade, David, Roadwalker and PPG, Tofu and Yen who helped to introduce their folding bikes to the public and help us tear down! The weather was macam hot and we were grateful they stayed behind to tahan the heat!
It was very nice to see Hellboy, Kim, William, Marcus, Mr Cheong & kawan, Coolthought, Kiabohe, Chris, Hanlin, David, Judy & kawan, Biketrooper and his family and PPG's kawans. We also met with other Strida and Birdy riders. We even got to know two Brompton riders who bought their Brommies from Australia!
