Pics of the World's first Strida and Carry-Me Malaysian Overnight Group Ride

Here are the great photos taken by many Strida Riders on possibly the world's first Strida and Carry-Me Malaysian Overnight Group Ride!
21 Strida and Carry Me Riders took two bumboats from Changi Jetty to Pengarang where we rode some 20 km to Sungei Rengit. We stayed at the very new Hotel Hiap Hwa and were awed by the new furniture and so very clean loos!
We cycled and ate and ate and ate some more. First it was wantan mee, for others it was nasi padang. Coupled with fruits like logans, rambutans and mangosteens, we were a happy bunch. We swamped a kueh kueh stall and ate 30 cents kuehs and drank soya bean and slurped bean curd mixed with grass jelly. Some believed we actually ate more than we cycled!
Dinner was lobster galore with prawns and fish. Then we were treated to an important Chinese temple procession. Many who are working in Singapore returned to Sungei Rengit for this occasion.
Then it was fruits and beer time at the roof top garden and it ended with a group of noisy ones who gambled into the wee hours of the night.
The next day, many flocked to eat chee cheong fun while a few strayed off to have a whiff of the flavourful kway chap and bak kut teh found in a zinc-roofed coffee shop! It was heavenly! Then we worked it all out in another non-stop 20km ride back to the ferry terminal to lessen the food guilt......
Actually we went non stop cos we didnt want to miss the boats!

I came back from changi with SBS 59 to Bishan and cycle back home to AMK.
To guys/gals who wanted to take bus together, so sorry. I saw it coming and I quickly rush coz I dont want to wait for another like 15-30 minutes for another bus. We had just missed SBS 2.
Once I reached home the first thing to do is... to weigh my backpack. It was 8 kg. With other load on the bike (monopod, other tidbits I tied at the back of the bike, my belt-pouch and my camera, the total extra weight is 12 kg.
Lesson learned: no need to bring so many lense if I am cycling.
No pics yet. I have showered and I am so sleepy now, need to take nap (slept on bus also liao)

Hi folks,
I updated our ride in this cycling journal - but emphasis on the quirky "tumpang wa" bicycle.

Thanks for a great trip everyone ! Our rides keep getting better & better...

We took a bum boat from Changi Ferry terminal, to Malaysia. Along the way I saw this sign... can someone explain what HDB is doing out there?
On the bum-boat, OnF is explaining the difference between seasoned traveler and yet to be seasoned traveller, by comparing the size of sun-block they bring to trips, the smaller it is, the more seasoned the traveler is. Of course, the most seasoned of all is the one not bringing any and borrow from others, right? hehe
David, our osim triathlon-man, was frantically searching for clothes to cover more, as suggested by the signboard, but unfortunately he did not packed long sleeve to this trip.
The godfather is counting his money.
The beer promoter? The singer? Oh... actually, Amanda, the customer posing under the Ah-Chiew Kedai Kopi (coffeeshop) signboard.
I will vote these two (Rex & Regina) as the most lovey dovey couple during the trip. Look, they are even pedalling in synch! As if they are riding a tandem bike.
Most daring stunt, when Vivian is overtaking this motorbike and look at the stunned expression of the biker. Priceless.
More photo at my
picasa google album
. Visit there yah! I am too sleepy already.

My input on dress codes,
1. The polite notice/warning poster at the jetty is perfect for cycling in 18 deg C spring time kind of weather.
2. The last time I checked, Singapore/Johore lies in the tropics...how to pedal in sweat pants???
3. Maybe if you're driving, there's a different, undress code.....which is a hazard to cyclists......as Paul nearly fell off his bike and I almost dropped my camera

After we left Sg Rengit, Paul and I rode through quiet AND shady kampong roads to Batu Layar beach 20 kms on, where we met the undress code gals. Another 25 kms and 6 kms past Desaru, at Tg Balau, horror of horrors there was booming bass and rave music from car stereos on steriods at a 'Johor Motorsports Festival' So no food here/habis lah. Hunger, violated ear drums and eyes dazzled by neon coloured cars at high noon...you get the picture. Managed to find a huge but almost empty food court/bus interchange OUT of town where we ate 4 meals.
From here on the raod was 35 kms of nothing, no houses, no drinks but nice forest and beach scenery. We got to dead quiet Sedili at 4.00 pm, abt 85 kms from Sg Rengit. And there were 3 frogs in the bathroom.......
After a super prata/canai breakfast we rode to JB, in a big Toyota Crown taxi, 80 kms @ RM 50 (bargained down from RM 60) Malaysia boleh lah.

Would have been nice to have joined you gals n' guys for the ride..
As for the dress code sign, I dun remember seeing it when I cycled Pengerang in Dec 05 leh..
Btw, I wonder how our neighbours in the north conduct mixed-gender triathlons?
Kinda slow to change to 'appropriate dress' when at transit station leh..
OT.. my bad..

Hey OnF, I dont recall yr camera having any soft focus filter. Karaoke King's back is as kilat/shimmering as the crankset......beware, does he have any 'tangki' affiliations?

Yeah, isn't olympus so cool?
Love the 4/3 system, no need to adjust just go to full-screen on your PC and you see all already.
How do you find it? Taken nice pics?
The swivel LCD is really nice coz you can take a lot of candid shot with that without people realizing it. hehehe
I am waiting for the launch of E-P1. About 3 more months to go... then I will get that one.
So what lense have you got?

Indeed cool... I like the sharpness that Olympus delivered . I like the swivel LCD too can take high and low without any problem.. Beside the kit len (14-45mm), i got a standard zoom (40-150mm) too.
